Sea Island and Jesus ... What?

I was thinking back to when we hosted one of our summer camps at Sea Island, my good friend and Co-Director, Scott Adams, had the kids go through a very simple exercise, that no doubt made a lasting impact.  At least I know it did on me.  As we were all gathered at the back of the practice facility, surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, he asked everyone to sit silently for one minute to listen and look at their surroundings.

 At the completion of the 60 seconds, he asked the campers, “what did you hear & what did you see?”  They responded with the waves, birds, wind, ocean, trees, clouds etc.  He then asked them when they come out to play golf, do they notice the same things, or do they get caught-up so much on their performance, that they miss all that the Lord is trying to share with them?  He went on to say that he treats his time on a golf course as if he is on Holy ground, a sanctuary, because He knows that Jesus is right there with him. 

I must admit, sometimes I notice the beauty of my surroundings and sometimes I miss them completely.  Through Scott’s little exercise, he reminded me; that Jesus is as far away from me as I choose for Him to be.  Psalm 118:24 says, “This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” No mention of birdies, making putts, hitting the ball well or shooting low scores. 

Today, rejoice, be glad.

Dear heavenly Father, thank You for today.  You are constantly revealing Your glory and splendor to us through the sun, sky, clouds, trees, wind, rain, birds etc.  How I can go through my day and miss You is beyond me!  So, Lord, give our PGA Professionals eyes to see You at every turn, through every birdie and bogey.  Fill their hearts with Your Holy Spirit blessing them, along with their family beyond measure.  I ask these things in the powerful name of Jesus Christ.  Amen!

I know the season has been long, hang in there and finish strong!
