Golf Fundraising Efforts
Our program is conducted in such a way that it would be a volunteer effort evolving into paid positions and is expected to become self-sufficient within a specific time-frame.

What does that mean?

All of the positions identified in the accompanying document (GPS Roles) (click here) will be volunteer until funds are in place to assist in sustaining the program.

Sources of income;
  • Golf Fundraising Events
  • Sponsorships
  • Lessons
  • Increased golf course revenue

We’ll talk about Golf Fundraising Events here; The Golf Marathon
The first golf fundraising event will be conducted the first week of May. The format will be a Golf Marathon.

A golf marathon is a format similar to a walk-a-thon or read-a-thon where each fundraising golfer is empowered to raise a total of $20 per hole over a six-month timeframe and play as many holes as possible in one day at the Gateway Golf Club the first week of May. Our goal is 20 golfers raising $20 per hole and playing 100 holes in one day for a total of $40,000 in gross funds raised.

$20 per hole???

Yes!!

We will be equipping each golfer with fundraising sheets to go out and ask people in their network for a portion of that “per hole” pledge.

Let’s say, we equip a golfer with the sheets and we ask the golfer to be ready to ask anyone he knows to donate. The golfer now becomes a Golf Fundraising Golfer (GFG) and sits before the Lord and writes out the people brought to mind to “Ask” for contributions for this very worthy effort to introduce young middle schoolers to golf and God.
Our GFG determines that one of his friends in his community owns a somewhat prosperous concrete company or Uber business or any business that is prosperous.

Our GFG would be trained to contact Mr Concrete Company owner (MCCo) and communicate that he/she has agreed to play 100 holes of golf in one day while raising pledges per hole for his/her effort. The reason our GFG is challenging himself/herself to play this many holes is because this fundraising golf marathon is benefiting the Golf Program in Schools in our Montgomery schools.

For every $20 raised a child will be introduced to the game of golf and given a free Junior Membership to the Montgomery Municipal Golf Courses until they graduate from high school. That could be up to SIX YEARS of free golf!!!

That’s amazing, right?

But, imagine that each Junior Member also has the option of being trained up as a Christ Follower!! That will change the trajectory of that child, their family and the community in which they live!!!!

Right!!!

His MCCo says “That is pretty amazing, what can I do to help?”

Our GFG says; “You could contribute $2.00 per hole. Just $2.00. That equates to a minimum of $200 when I play 100 holes, but I might play 117 holes so you would be committed to contributing up to $234.

That’s 11 kids that will be sponsored in our program!!

You will be positively impacting the lives of those kids by introducing them to the game of golf, training them up on how to be people of integrity on the golf course and at home as well as introducing them and training them up to be people who know the Lord Jesus Christ and are followers of Him for eternity!!!!”

MCCo says, “Whoa, $234. That’s a lot, right!?” Our GFG says, “Yes, Sir, but, you’re impacting the lives of so many children in our community. You know how we have to improve our community and this is the best way to do that; golf and God.”

MCCo says, “I know, but, is it possible to give a smaller amount?”

“Yes, sir.” Our fundraising GFG says,  “How about $1.50 per hole. That would be $150 dollars or a bit more. You don’t have to wait until the end of the event. You could contribute to seven or eight kids now by giving a check for $150.”

“OK”, MCCo says, “I’ll give you a $100 check for five kids. Is that OK?”

“ABSOLUTELY!! Thank you so much. Here is a receipt for your contribution and we will mention your company at our event and in our newsletter.”

And our GFG heads off to the next friend…..

Our GFG has just raised $1.00 per hole. Only $19 per hole left.

Let’s say his next friend is not so fortunate to own a concrete company or be an Uber driver. Our GFG decides to ask this friend for 20 cents per hole which will be $20 or a little more. Their friend agrees and our golf fundraising golfer has just raised a total 0f $120 now. Just $18.80 per hole to go. And on and on until our golf fundraising golfer gets to the $20 per hole (or more) goal.

Golf Program in Schools & The LEO, Golf Academy present;
Golf Program in Schools (GPS) - Montgomery
Impacting the Golf Game and Game of LIFE of Montgomery’s Middle Schoolers & Their Families

Introduction
What an amazing opportunity we have been given to impact the lives of the middle school students and their families in our Montgomery area. Golf Program in Schools has agreed with the Montgomery municipal golf program and the Leo Golf Academy to host our golf program at Lagoon Park and Gateway Golf Clubs.

We have met and prayed and planned for the people of this great golf community to reach out to our middle schoolers at their school gymnasiums and introduce the game of golf to every middle schooler that takes gym in their school.
We propose to begin in March of 2022 to enter the schools one at a time each week to conduct four days of fundamental golf instruction with the fifth day a field trip conducted to allow the students to participate in a real golf experience at the Gateway Golf Club. We will also be introducing those students who opt-in to hear from our student mentors trained by the Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF) Central Alabama and offer Bible Clubs and class mentorship for those students who choose our CEF option.

What Does This Look Like?
We have included a proposed calendar for the preparation and execution of our GPS - Montgomery Program below, here are the highlights of the next several months.

Why should all Golfers support Golf Program in Schools?

GPS students are instructed for FREE and enjoy FREE membership at a golf course until they turn 19.

Why should YOU support GPS?

(GPS) Golf Program in Schools has proven to be the premier Inclusive, In-school, Curriculum based, Free, youth golf introduction program in the nation.

GPS partners with local school districts and is invited to introduce every 5th -9th grade student that participates in gym class to the lifelong benefits and valuable life lessons of golf. This removes all socio-economic barriers to learning about golf.

GPS reaches every 5-9th grade student, including those who would never be afforded the opportunity to engage in such a healthy, satisfying & sport of integrity. Golf is a game of a lifetime. GPS students are instructed for FREE and enjoy FREE membership at a golf course until they turn 19.

There is no other golf program for the youth of this country like GPS.

The benefits to engaging in this program cannot be measured.

Offering these students this membership places them in a new socio-economic environment that provides further opportunities for increased learning, increased exposure to future relationships, as well as career & scholarship consideration.

There is no other golf program for the youth of this country like GPS.

1. Students benefit. We reach every student in 5th to 9th grade, plus we provide a special needs program in all schools that have special needs or unified sports classes. Every student has the opportunity to be introduced to golf and the life lessons learned from golf. They have an opportunity to go on a field trip to visit a green grass course during the program week. Each GPS graduate that fills out our post program survey receives free golf until they turn 19yrs old t the host course. Students are made aware of golf scholarships and career opportunities.

2. Families benefit. With the invitation for the students to play free golf with a paying adult, we are encouraging families to play golf together. This equates to 4 hours or more of quality family time in a social-media free, fresh air environment!

GPS introduces kids to the game at an age where they can become lifelong lovers of golf.

3. Communities benefit. With GPS increasing players, and thus increasing revenue at the host golf course, we intend to slow the closure of community golf courses and preserve these community environmental assets.

4. Schools Benefit. GPS provides a week of instruction, free to the schools. The students love the class, as proven by our surveys, and participation goes way up when we are there, according to the teachers.

5. Host Golf Courses benefit. We benefit the host golf course, acting as a marketing arm. Our host course the Sun City Country Club increased its revenue 51% over the last 5 years.

6. The Game of Golf and the industry benefit. GPS introduces kids to the game at an age where they can become lifelong lovers of golf. This translates to an increase in golfers supporting the courses and the industry.
How GPS benefits. With more people taking up the game of golf and taking lessons, the GPS Golf Academies become economically able to sustain the free GPS program. The Academies will provide the income to pay PGA teachers and administrative staff. This will eventually eliminate the need to continuously raise grant money to provide salaries and pay overhead.

Lastly: Noted in a recent article published by The National Golf Foundation stated: “The three factors in converting new golfers to regular clients are:

1- Receiving professional instruction.

2- Learning in a specialized group setting.

3- Having a Fun introductory experience.”

GPS does all the above.

Sea Island and Jesus ... What?

“Teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Matthew 28:20

I was thinking back to when we hosted one of our summer camps at Sea Island, my good friend and Co-Director, Scott Adams, had the kids go through a very simple exercise, that no doubt made a lasting impact.  At least I know it did on me.  As we were all gathered at the back of the practice facility, surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, he asked everyone to sit silently for one minute to listen and look at their surroundings.

At the completion of the 60 seconds, he asked the campers, “what did you hear & what did you see?”  They responded with the waves, birds, wind, ocean, trees, clouds etc.  He then asked them when they come out to play golf, do they notice the same things, or do they get caught-up so much on their performance, that they miss all that the Lord is trying to share with them?  He went on to say that he treats his time on a golf course as if he is on Holy ground, a sanctuary, because He knows that Jesus is right there with him.

I must admit, sometimes I notice the beauty of my surroundings and sometimes I miss them completely.  Through Scott’s little exercise, he reminded me; that Jesus is as far away from me as I choose for Him to be.  Psalm 118:24 says, “This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” No mention of birdies, making putts, hitting the ball well or shooting low scores.

Today, rejoice, be glad.

Dear heavenly Father, thank You for today.  You are constantly revealing Your glory and splendor to us through the sun, sky, clouds, trees, wind, rain, birds etc.  How I can go through my day and miss You is beyond me!  So, Lord, give our PGA Professionals eyes to see You at every turn, through every birdie and bogey.  Fill their hearts with Your Holy Spirit blessing them, along with their family beyond measure.  I ask these things in the powerful name of Jesus Christ.  Amen!

I know the season has been long, hang in there and finish strong!
